[ Adolphe sure is flustered when he definitely wasn't before! He doesn't say anything for a moment, but then pulls Yves by the hand that he kissed the back of and... hugs him. ]

[ He tries so hard to get past his self-esteem, the deprecation of his existence, for the boy who has always loved everyone, even after death—the one who believed in him and loved him the most. Adolphe trusts Yves from the bottom of his heart. He bet his life on Yves's success. He means so much to him.

And he feels utterly stupid for not realizing it before. ]

even if it was never said directly in words, he's already been reminded here. he's loved, even if it's not romantically. and after everything adolphe's ever done for him, yves has never doubted that once. as sincerely as yves loves adolphe—and he has, since the day they met, through months of silence then years of friendship—of course adolphe loves him too. in every unspoken reassurance and kind act.

it doesn't occur to him that this might be the type of love he's been looking for. ]

Adolphe has the feeling that he's not exactly getting through to Yves here. The love between them has been strongly platonic, but they're dead right now. Whatever else that holds in the future seems moot. To throw away the things that hold Adolphe back is definitely motivated and charged by various things. ]

[ Yet he's never really said it outright to him, until now. It's fine. It's fine! He tries not to let the guilt get to him. He's always relied on Yves to have his back and always paid back his loyalty.

Adolphe quietly breathes in while pulling away from the hug, but immediately follows it up with a hand to Yves's cheek, the opposite side from the mask because he knows Yves is sensitive about it. He mirrors Yves's earlier action and leans in to give him a kiss... on the cheek.

He tried his best, but this is as far as it got with anything physical from him. ]

yves would be so content to just stay here snuggled in this hug forever, and that'd be the case even without whatever choco he ate. he will not bother to examine this thought even after it wears off. but he will shift when adolphe does, looking at him curiously—

until his hand comes up to yves' face and his breath hitches. most people on their island are too afraid of his mask and scar and face to touch anywhere near it, and yet adolphe does it so easily. it makes his heart racket around in his ribcage in both surprise and tenderness, and he leans into the touch almost so automatically. unabashedly, like he's starved for the attention.

when the kiss comes, it startles him. his eyes widen and his gaze searches adolphe's immediately, and he almost realizes this isn't heterosexual behavior from his straightest of straight guy friends ]

... Adolphe?

[ his voice comes out quieter than he anticipated, but his fingers curl into the lapel of adolphe's jacket anyway. clingy... ]

[ Would Adolphe ever kiss anyone so casually... definitely not. When it comes to love and such, he's just as serious.

The feeling that wells up in his heart makes him feel like he's soaring in some wind tunnel of some high when he sees Yves lean into the touch. ]

[ His eyes meet Yves's. Hes trying his best to do that instead of averting his eyes. All he's ever done was run away and be wishy-washy when it came to these things.

But his heart stills when Yves speaks, wondering what he'll say. Their faces are still close. ]

[ His determination continues to help Adolphe stand his ground in not running away from all this from either sheer embarrassment or just not being able to handle it. But for real though, he's reaching his limit. He's still trying his best.

So when he hears of Yves's confirmation of love, it feels like it was all worth it. The last line makes him think back on their conversation about deciding to stay in heaven or get resurrected, and the choice seems even more prominent now. The choice that he's yet to make. Please, only one anti-wishy-washy thing at a time. ]

I'm glad. I'd always want to make you happy when I can.

[ His voice is quiet since their foreheads are touching, so Yves can probably hear him anyway. ]

unfortunately yves would say all this no matter what kind of love he thought adolphe was offering him. he'll just wrap his own arms around adolphe's middle, and his smile is sincere. ]

[ though one hand comes up to cup adolphe's face, brushing his thumb against the curve of his cheekbone ]

[ yves is a little bit in love with everyone, and he's already made friends here that he treasures and holds so closely for the way that they don't judge him or seem afraid. but it's still just a barely there flicker compared to his steady, unabashed care for adolphe as prominent as the sun in the sky ]

[ Romance is so hard, but the physical contact feels nice. He's not exactly touch-starved, but it's... a nice feeling. Yves caressing his face makes him want to melt into a puddle.

Yves, the sincerest person in the world. His best friend. The one by his side. The person that he absolutely trusts over everyone else in existence. Adolphe loves him. He really does. There's a small smile on his face before he leans in just a little to give him a short kiss--a peck, if you will. ]

it's just a peck, but a peck is enough to signal to him that this isn't a platonic little smooch from his super straight guy friend that he's very heterosexually loving with.

yves will think about what this means later, perhaps, when the chocolate works its way through his system. to get a kiss from someone he cherishes so deeply, who's seen him without his mask, who knows him from his sugar sweet surface to the greedy core beneath it. but for right now, it is that same craving for affection and attention that wins.

he pauses for a moment, hesitates, and then leans in again. his hand slips from adolphe's cheek to the curve of his jaw to draw him in again, asking for another kiss. it's not yves' first. he's tried this so many times before with people who eventually ran the other way. but he tries again right now, hoping. the kiss is soft and searching, but it lingers.

when he does pull back, he asks and finds himself only a little afraid of the answer: ] Is this okay?

[ He can still feel his lips even after they slightly part. It lingers and he wants to have another kiss.

Immediately, Adolphe says in a quiet voice with no hesitation. ]
Yeah. Of course it's okay.

[ So he leans in to kiss him again to prove his point. It's no longer a peck, but rather a full fledged romantic kiss. ]

[ the only kiss cg icons i have are in the literal burning flower field and i don't think this situation warrants that level of drama

but of course yves leans into it! of course he enjoys it! everything is okay when adolphe says so, and he believes in that forever. so if adolphe says this is fine, then it must be true. he shifts to loop his arms around adolphe's neck, content to keep him in place to chase after kisses like he's affection-starved.

and maybe he is!

even if he's also smiling into the kisses like a doofus, giddy off the feeling of his closest companion and most trusted friend being sweet to him, too. ]

[ The best thing about being dead is slightly not giving a fuck about future consequences. There was always pressure when he was alive, but here, he could really do whatever he wanted (but still within reason, because it's adolphe).

Yves's smile is one of the best things about him, so feeling it during the kiss is really nice. Moreover, he keeps chasing after the kisses again and again in return. The gesture of the arms around his neck feels so intimate that he can't help but to push Yves closer to him by pressing his lower back.

He loves him so much that he forgets that they're just kinda out there despite this being a PC. ]

[ adolphe you are the most reasonable person here which is great because even hugo talks about how random and reckless yves is when he gets caught up by his impulses.

it's so funny this is a pc but they must be like in the hallway or something while everyone else is conveniently eating cake. yves really isn't even thinking about it, is having trouble thinking about anything besides the sheer delight of what it might mean to love and be loved in return. the noise he makes is pleased at being brought that much closer to adolphe, and he'll try to make sure there's no space left between them.

at least until yves' chocolate times out first, because he ate his earlier than adolphe's. that will probably happen soon ]

[ His case of unrequited love isn't Bad as Yves's, but it sure feels nice to have something returned for someone who thought he didn't deserve nice things. The high of it all and the sound that Yves makes triggers something in his brain.

But he knows Yves loves everyone to a degree. Yves always wanted to be loved in return, after all. That's something Adolphe has come to accept, but he still doesn't want to share. ]

Yves...

[ He quietly breathes out as he gently shifts their position so that he has Yves against the wall. They're closer than ever. ]

[ it's sweet to hear his name said like this, to feel so wanted—and he lets himself be moved without much concern, laughing a little bit. he thinks it'd be fun to just laugh and kiss with adolphe for the rest of his afterlife. ]

[ his tone playful and light, even as he gives him another kiss just because ]

[ and then the chocolate wears off ]

[ and yves, for all the moments where he appears head empty or chooses not to think about things, is smarter than he looks at the end of the day. his mind makes rapid fire connections between chocolate and chocolate muffins and what it means to suddenly have these feelings of love, and to have adolphe so close and timing

so he settles for pressing a kiss to adolphe's cheek after, acting like nothing has changed at all because the idea of suddenly stopping and hurting his best friend's feelings is the literal last thing he would ever do ]

Adolphe, can we go for a walk? I want to go to the garden.

[ Despite being affected by magical chocolate, Adolphe is still himself. That's why when Yves abruptly asks him if they can go for a walk to the garden, his head suddenly clears up like post-nut clarity. He feels... absolutely embarrassed by what he's just did, so he backs off. He's still affected by the chocolate, but being in love doesn't that make him TOO dumb. ]

Y-Yeah.

[ He clears his throat and looks away. Still, he looks back at Yves and holds his hand out to him. ]

We can. Let's go.
